First Station: Jesus is condemned to Death

Leader: We adore You O Christ, and we praise You. (genuflect)
All: Because by Your Holy Cross, You have redeemed the world.

REFLECTION:

Jesus was standing before Pilate. He was alone; everyone abandoned him. Jesus devoted his entire life to helping others, but nobody defended him. Instead, everybody condemned him. Pilate condemned Jesus to death, but it was the people who shouted, “Crucify him.” Today, we continue to condemn Jesus for our sinfulness when we judge
others based on our selfish motives, when those in authority pass unjust judgment because of self-preservation, and when we are uncharitable to others. In our sinfulness, we abandoned Jesus and we condemn him to death again and again.

PRAYER:

Lord Jesus, help us to be the source of hope in this unjust world. We pray that all our works and actions are geared toward justice. We ask for forgiveness when we condemn someone because of his or her ideas and beliefs that are different from ours. Enlighten those in authority to always render justice to all. Thank you, Lord Jesus, for helping us love and not condemn.

Our Father … Hail Mary… Glory Be…
